She is affiliated with the San Francisco Symphony Chorus, Capella SF, Marin Baroque and Apollo Arts. She is pursuing acceptance into the Merola Program at the San Francisco Opera which will give her the skills and contacts she will need to further her career both domestically and internationally.

 Mariya Kaganskaya - Vocal Preformance

Mariya is a mezzo-soprano who received her Master of Music from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. She has participated in the Young Artists Programs at the Arizona Opera, Florida Grand Opera, Opera Santa Barbara and the Santa Fe Opera and she has won many awards for her singing.

Her aspirations are simply "to do my job (as a mezzo – soprano) at the highest level possible and to strive for a world-class career in opera."

Mariya will use her scholarship award to help fund the next step of her career as a professional opera singer, specifically voice lessons.

Feona Jones - Composition

Feona received an award last year for her incredible opera about her family’s time in China. This year she plans to compose a Requiem Mass for a twenty-plus choir. The mass will be in seven movements and thirty minutes in length. She had two close friends and a relative who passed away and writing the Requiem is her way of acknowledging these people. She will use extended techniques such as whispering and improvisation as well as complex harmonies. The committee was given the opportunity to hear some of her initial composition, which was fascinating. Her goal is to have her music performed at a large venue such as the San Francisco War Memorial Opera House. She is currently attending the Arts Iceland Residency this summer.

She will use her award towards both voice and composition lessons.

Lucia ( Lucy ) London - Vocal Performance - Joni Chase Award

She will use her award for her musical education.
